Massive protests in Cairo today

And elsewhere around Egypt as well. Very uncommon scenes for Egypt where little dissent is tolerated. The screencap above is of some guys standing down a water canon. Watch the full video here.

Inpsired by Tunisians who were in turn inspired by Wikileaks, the protests coincided with a national holiday celebrating the achievements of the police force.

The Egyptian government apparently shut down twitter but there’s still plenty getting through.

Update 01:07 CET 26-Jan – The video linked to above had about 350 views when I first saw it about 8 hours ago. It’s at 118,000+ now.

Another update 12:48 CET 26-Jan – Video views just under 500,000.
