Isla del Sol, Where the Sun was Created (Pic du Jour)

Isla del Sol, Lake Titicaca, Bolivia

Here are a few snaps taken about a week ago on Isla del Sol, the largest island on Lake Titicaca, South America’s largest lake.

The Inca believed that the sun and moon were created there –after spending a day traversing the island, it was easy to imagine the spiritual connection the setting inspired. The sublime beauty of the island and its immediate environs imparted in me a connection and inner peace than not even Machu Picchu was able to match. (More on the latter soon.)

‘From Above’ is this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge theme; these were all taken from the trail that spans the spine of the island – in many cases the only place to look was down. More photos and more about this spectacular setting forthcoming, I promise. I’m just not sure when. 🙂

Incredible..a spiritual connection even greater than Machu Picchu? The photos are gorgeous. There’s mystical energy in those mountains.
