For her travel theme this week, Ailsa asked for ripples. So here are some ripples of water and light that I hope will conspire to make waves.
These were taken in the garden fish pond on the sprawling Malecon (boardwalk) along the Guayas River in Guayaquil, Ecuador’s largest city. I was experimenting with a zoom-pan technique I previously tried here; both are handheld longer exposures shot at 1/6, f10, 100ASA.
And speaking of the fish pond, about a month ago I posted a 26-second video of the trash that self-absorbed morons fling into the water. If you missed it, it’s here.
Amazing capture, following the fish! 🙂
Fun, if a little dizzying. 🙂
Haha 🙂
I really like these images! they are very surreal!
Incredible ripples.

That first image is absolutely wonderful! Are you willing to share how you did it?
Thanks, and of course. 🙂 It’s a long exposure (using a slowish shutter speed) requiring a zoom lens. While the shutter is open, simply move the zoom back and forth while trying to keep camera motion to an absolute minimum. Works best if you use a monopod or tripod.
Wow. I’ve never heard of that – now I’m going to have to find a place to try it. You really get a great effect that way and, even with a tripod, you must have great technique to get it to work so well! Thanks for explaining it.
