I’ve visited Doha, Qatar’s increasingly sprawling capital, about half a dozen times in the past half dozen years and what I find most fascinating is how rapidly the cityscapes change between visits.
This was taken in the southwest portion of Doha’s West Bay district in early May 2014. By day, the large vacant lots served as parking lots for the buses and vans that shuttled workers into the center of town from their quarters on the city’s outskirts.
I’ll be returning next week for a 25-day assignment and will go in search of these two vacant lots to see what’s transpired in the eight months since. My guess is that it won’t look like this anymore. I’ll let you know.
For the record, today’s Pic du Jour, the 354th straight, was snapped on 07 May 2014 in Doha, Qatar, where something is always new – and my pick for this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge Theme, ‘New‘.
