Tune du Jour: Bomba Estéreo – “Mar (Lo Que Siento)”

This is “Mar”, or “Sea”, by Bogota band Bomba Estereo from their recent release “Amenecer”. I found it via NPR’s Alt.Latino show, on their Picks For A Hot Summer Soundtrack last week. I just arrived in Cali where I’ll be for much of the summer. And it’s hot.

I was intrigued by co-host Jasmine Garsd’s description, which moved me enough to seek it out:

“.. They do a lot of, like, club hits. It’s a lot of, like, very electronic club hits. But then they have this really sweet spot where they do songs so that you kind of mellow out after a night of dancing. And I think this just – this song feels like mellowing out on the beach after a night of dancing.”

Like her co-host Rachel Martin, it’s been a while too since I’ve needed to recover from an all-night party dance jam, but I like the idea. Especially on a Pacific or Caribbean beach.

Light, poppy and fun, but a bit too energetic for my idea of “mellowing out” somewhere. That said, it is eminently fun.

Find Bomba Estéreo on YouTube, Twitter, Soundcloud and Facebook.

Attention musicians, record label reps or fans: Got a suggestions for a Tune du Jour? I’d love to hear it.

Each weekday at noon Eastern Time Piran Café spotlights a new or recently released song from smaller or independent labels to our rapidly growing audience. Genre? None. So long as it’s good. Suggestions are most welcome and encouraged – do get in touch. Please include press info about the song /album /artist, and links to video, audio or both. The more info, the merrier.

CURRENT FOCUS: Since I’ll be based in Colombia through the latter half of August, I’d love to focus as much as I can during that time on new or emerging artists from South America. Obviously, exceptions will always be made. Just trying to keep it local. Thanks!

Catch up with last week’s picks here, and listen to the best of this month’s selections on Soundcloud.
