The Bird’s Nest Stadium, Beijing

For Throwback Thursday, like yesterday another Olympic memory.

Here’s a shot of the Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium in Beijing I took exactly seven years ago today. Given the Chinese capital’s pollution and almost-perpetual haze, the stadium was always more pleasant to look at after dark. The lights helped, too. 🙂

Besides the track and field competition, the stadium hosted the 2008 Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies (a posted a few images from that extravaganza here) and will do so again when Beijing hosts the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. That –the same stadium hosting the opening at both a summer and winter games– will be an Olympic first.

I hope they’ll have a better handle on the air pollution by then.
