Ljubljana Castle, at Sunset

Ljubljana and Ljubljana castle facing east

I’m still busy with the move and have no internet connection at home yet, but to keep the Pic du Jour streak alive —today’s is the 602nd (!!) straight— here’s a shot of Ljubljana’s castle hill for the benefit of those of you who know little if anything about Slovenia’s difficult to pronounce capital city. It’s a nice place I’m very happy to call home. 🙂

This was taken just before sunset in late October 2013 and included in a post cleverly entitled Ljubljana 360 which features a series of shots taken in all directions from the Slovenian capital’s first skyscraper. This is facing east/southeast. To give you a geographic frame of reference, the shot below is the view due north towards the Kamnik Alps that form the border with Austria.

Still Ljubljana-curious? Here’s a larger gallery with 20 images. Enjoy!

Wow, that’s beautiful! I’m guessing it was built on top for safety against enemies? Do you happen to know when it was built?

The complex dates back to the 11th century and its current buildings to the 16th. It’s a great spot. Here’s a good summary from the Ministry of Culture: http://www.culture.si/en/Ljubljana_Castle

The castle, the colors…I’m delighted these places exist in life and not just the imagination.
