Making Time for the Fall – Quick Ride to Iški Vintgar Gorge
It’s the first of November already and I didn’t snap my first “fall” photo of the year until yesterday. I’m not sure what I was waiting for. Life gets in the way. I have to stop letting it do that; seasons are beginning to pass way too quickly.
Today’s Pic du Jour, the blog’s 667th straight, was taken at the picturesque Iški Vintgar Gorge, located just 22 kilometers south of Ljubljana’s city center. Situated on the south side of the sprawling Ljubljana Moors, Europe’s southernmost wetlands, it’s one of my favorite nearby bicycling day trips — a quick, easy and painless hour-long ride (one-way) to an area with plenty of decent hiking on offer as well.
For extra-long distance hikers, note that the gorge is on the E6 European Long Distance Path, a 6,283km (3,904mi) trans-continental hiking trail that begins at in the northwestern tip of Finland at Kilpisjärvi and concludes in Alexandroupolis, Greece. Anyone of you ever walked any part of that?
