Introducing Wednesday’s Headlines: A Call For Submissions

If you’re reading this and think it would be entertaining to send along a pic of the daily newspaper or newspapers from wherever you happen to be at the moment, consider this your public call to do just that.

I’m an international news junkie and love newspapers, so the idea here is to collect headlines from all corners of the planet on the same day. Thus “Wednesday’s Headlines”, which is, in short: a quick snap of the nearest newsstand or newspaper each Wednesday from anywhere in the world –whether that’s where you’re traveling at the moment are in the place you call home.

Be as wildly creative or sublimely mundane as you’d like –the image can be of someone reading, an entire newsstand, several newspapers, or just one– so long as it does include an actual newspaper published on Wednesday of each particular week — beginning this week, Wednesday, 6 January 2016.

As suggested, this will be a weekly compilation, with photos published the following morning Central European Time (GMT-1), so please send them to me at bob@pirancafe.com so they’re received by 08:00 CET in the morning Thursday.

I’ll be happy to include your name, a link to your website or blog and a link to one social media network of your choice along with the image. The earlier you send it, the better chance it will have to be included.

A few more examples:

Are you in? Great!

Submission details

  • Include your name and the location where the photo was taken (City, state, country). Feel free to add a few lines of text for context. (Creativity is encouraged.)
  • Include you website/blog name and URL and one social media link (if you’d like) which will be included with each published photo. If you have a Twitter account that’s not included above, send that handle as well so you can be included in the post’s promotion.
  • In a perfect world the title of the image file you send will include lots of that info, something along the lines of this: Dallas-USA-Jan-06-2016-by-FirstName-LastName. Or something like that.

    Weekly blogging collaboration

  • Size: uncropped, no larger than 1000 pixels on the long side (landscape/horizontal preferred) and under 250kb.
  • Send to: bob @ pirancafe.com.
  • Absolute deadline: Thursday morning 08:00 CET. Any photos received after 8am will not be included.
  • Yes — you can participate every week.
  • And feel free to spread the word.

Any questions? Leave them in the comments and I’ll be happy to answer.

Looking forward to a small pile of headlines in Thursday morning’s mail! Have fun!

Sounds very interesting! Ill see what I can come up with. I don’t buy newspapers, but I read the free ones, it is just so damn hard to grab a copy, they are gone as soon as the news stand opens 🙂

Great! But you don’t need to buy one. Just snap a pic of the newsstand itself. I just added a few more examples above. Cheer!

Darn, I have a great shot of a news stand in Shanghai I’ve never managed to use. But it’s from 10 years ago. Guess I’ll have to go out and shoot something new. An excellent idea.

Excellent, Brad, you can do it! 🙂 Newspapers are everywhere. 🙂 Cheers!

Like this idea. Can it be in your home town, country or just anywhere?

    1. Bob R says

Hi Anne – Thanks for checking in. It could be anywhere, wherever you happen to be on that Wednesday –home, holiday or somewhere in between. The idea is to get as diverse a selection each week. Just a quick snap with your mobile phone will do.

I love this idea. Hmm! Hardly noticed vendors around me. I shall go hunting.

    1. Bob R says

Excellent, please do. They needn’t be vendors: a quick snap at a supermarket checkout line will do the trick, too. Good hunting!
