I booked a 04:30 ride yesterday morning to catch the sunrise at the Khor al Adaid, or so-called Inland Sea, that sits at the edge of a natural desert border of high rolling sand dunes between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
I knew even before the pre-dawn light began to appear that the conditions wouldn’t be ideal. In fact, each direction featured wildly different conditions. Here, facing northwest, I was met by a swirling fog that made the stark landscapes appear even more desolate, dreamy and sublime.
It wasn’t the sunrise I was expecting, but I was glad to experience it. Look for a post about the early morning desert excursion later this week.
Today’s Pic du Jour, the site’s 779th straight, was taken near Khor Al Adaid, in the Arabian desert of southern Qatar, on 20-Feb-2016.
