Pic du Jour: Street Performer, High Above Montmartre, Paris

Football performer at Montmartre Paris

Today’s daily travel pic was snapped from the steps of the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris where a picturesque backdrop is always on the menu.

This gentleman was terrific, performing atop a 3ft x 3ft (1 meter square) stone pedestal at the base of the steps that lead to the famed basilica in the Montmartre section of Paris. He certainly deserved a euro or two.

Today’s Pic du Jour, the site’s 781st straight, was taken in Paris, France, on 18 July 2009.

It’s an old favorite. By the way I’m glad he wasn’t facing the other way. It’s a fairly long drop.

Scary, but brilliant and I do like the way you got the shot done.

I used to sip my coffee on those steps and watch him- there was always music too…I lived right underneath the Sacre cœur

Excellent — it’s always fun to cross paths with someone who recognizes someone in a photo. How long ago was that? I wonder if he’s still working that pedestal?

That was a couple of years ago, but I’m sure he still is there. Everytime i go back to Paris I still see him, and he’s actually become kind of a household name I think- he was featured on t.v and he’s become a staple of Montmartre.

Great to hear. He really was terrific.
