Predjama Castle - Slovenia

Slovenia’s Predjama Castle (Pic du Jour)

Today’s Daily Travel Pic features one of my favorite castles on the planet: Predjama Grad, a Gothic castle built in the mouth of a cave located in the western Slovenian village that’s given it its name, and not far from the Postojna Caves, the country’s most visited attraction.

First mentioned in 1274, the castle was more recently featured in an episode of Ghost Hunters International and is also the place where the infamous knight Erasmus was struck down by a cannonball while he sat on his toilet. Yes, a true story, one I look forward to investigating further later this month or next.

In case you missed it, I posted some additional info about Predjama Castle and several more images here. Check it out.

And for the record: today’s Pic du Jour, the site’s 803rd straight, was taken in Predjama, Slovenia, on 08 March 2014.
