On the Ngo Dong River, Vietnam

In the background, some of the karst towers that make up much of the landscape along the Tam Cốc, or Three Caves portion of the Ngô Đồng River in northern Vietnam.

It’s a wildly popular and very busy tourist day trip destination not far south of Hanoi. This kind of stillness is very an exception to the traffic jam you’ll experience. That said, I’m not suggesting you don’t visit if you haven’t. Just don’t expect the illusion of serenity pictured here.

Today’s Pic du Jour, the site’s 900th straight (!), was taken near the city of  Ninh Bình, Vietnam, on 25 October 2010.
