Today’s Pic du Jour, the site’s 1,149th (!) straight, recalls a hike exactly four years ago on the Enchanted Forest Trail, or Sendero Bosque Encantado, in southern Chile’s remote and pristine Queulat National Park, a trail that admirably lives up to its name. To illustrate, above is the glacier-fed Los Gnomos Lagoon that sits at the trail’s terminus. Seriously.
It didn’t reveal itself until the morning mist that blanketed the area gradually lifted, unveiling the clifftop glacier before my eyes. Coming at the end of a trail that weaved through an undergrowth of otherworldly mosses and wide swaths of fiery Hummingbird fuchsia, that natural curtain-raising was one of the most serenely beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced.
In case you missed it, check out my post on the trail and hike here, which includes 25 more images. It’s one of the most popular and most-visited on the site.
