I was in Doha, Qatar, this past week to cover the opening meet of the IAAF Diamond League series, the professional track and field circuit that kicked off in the Qatari capital for the ninth consecutive year.
Here are a handful of candid portraits of some of the athletes who competed at the meet last night (4 May), taken over the past few days at various press events. Above is Brianna McNeal of the USA, the 2016 Olympic 100 meter hurdles champion. Her laugh is infectious.
400 meter hurdler Abderrahman Samba of Qatar
Christian Taylor of the USA, two-time Olympic and three-time world champion in the triple jump
Dawn Harper-Nelson, the 2008 Olympic 100 meter hurdles champion. She’s retiring at the end of this season.
Hellen Obiri of Kenya, the 2017 world 5000 meter champion.
Jenny Simpson of the USA, the 2011 1500 meters champion, 2016 Olympic bronze medalist
Jereem Richards of Trinidad & Tobago, the 2017 world 200 meters bronze medalist
